No, these individuals must actually live in the societies that they propose, in order to be disabused of their faulty thinking. Recently, Arts and Letters daily ran a story of communist immigrants to Russia from the U.S in the 30's. Their idealism for the Soviet union was destroyed once they were sent to the Gulag.
