It seems very likely to be a case of the government framing foolish people. There is no claim in the indictment of any planning of a specific act of violence. They are being charged with sedition, which more or less means the government does not have any good evidence against them. Notice they claim they planned to kill policemen but are not charging them with such. It seems likely no explosives or machine guns were found or they would have been charged with such. The first stories out claimed they planned to attack to attack “Muslims,” which was changed to policemen the next day. And it seems the FBI had an agent provocateur in this group. The whole case looks very rotten, hopefully more will come to light soon.
Judge: 9 militia members charged with plotting against US can go free while awaiting trial
Federal Judge Victoria A. Roberts Questions Why Hutaree Members Were Arrested and the Evidence Presented in Court
A federal judge on Wednesday expressed strong reservations about the weight of the evidence against nine militia members accused of plotting to wage war against the United States....
The Hutaree members also face charges of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. But defense lawyers have noted no bombs were among the large amounts of weapons and ammunition seized from defendants and said the only explosives set off at Hutaree training exercises were supplied and detonated by an undercover FBI agent who infiltrated the group.
The Hutaree Militia Raid By Chuck Baldwin
If Hutaree members were indeed planning AGGRESSIVE violence against anyone–in the government or without–they deserved to be stopped. If, however, they were simply preparing to DEFEND THEMSELVES against government overreach or abuse–and would only resort to violence in an act of lawful self-defense–they committed no crime and are but the most recent victims of federal abuse of power.

...and the “Hutaree militia”? I’m now old and scarred enough to say openly what as an MSM editor I would merely have cunningly proposed as an interesting hypothesis to some energetic young reporter: I don’t believe it… I think, as Richard Hoste has argued, that it’s far more likely to turn out to be a case of entrapment by some ambitious prosecutor trying to please his/her political masters. Of course, I may be wrong. I admit I am influenced by Paul Craig Roberts’ criticisms of prosecutorial abuse. I remain puzzled by Oklahoma City… But even if I am wrong, the left-right imbalance is flagrant. In America today, it is whites, and conservatives, who are physically afraid.

I am saddened by the behavior of so-called "Michigan Volunteer Militia" without knowing the facts they take the Feds words at face value. As far as the Federal government goes very sadly the default position should always be automatically to think they lying until proven otherwise. We do not know facts of the case yet, they should not be attacking people in such manner.
"This is a group that I would classify as neither a militia or a Christian group," said Michael Lackomar, a member of the Southeast Michigan Volunteer Militia. "They're really a fringe group outside of anything we do.
"They're more of a private army or a terrorist organization or really just a criminal organization."1
