Thank you for your post. <br /><br />All through art school I felt something was very wrong, but couldn't quite put my finger on it. Graduate school students always had what I called a "spiel" about whatever they were doing that was psychologically confused, dark, perverse, irreverent, or just whimsical. The whimsical wasn't too bad, of course, but the actual art was secondary to the "spiel",the written "justification". <br /><br />For example,one could write volumes on what would be balls of dog poop hung from the ceiling, rendering the "art" valid. <br /><br />I decided that I would never have a "spiel" good enough to justify my "materialistic" art, and decided to forego grad school, though I really could draw and paint, unlike most all of the grad students.
